From May 29 to 31 in Nantes, the European Pig Producers’ Congress brought together several hundred farmers and key players in the European pig industry to discuss a common issue: “How to engage the consumer?”. As a preferred partner of farmers, distributors and farm supply manufacturers worldwide, Olmix was a Gold sponsor of this event, showing its support and commitment to animal welfare, sustainability and quality in the pig industry.

As part of the ‘company discovery’ tour organised by the congress, Olmix, located in the center of Brittany, opened its doors to 300 participants from 16 different nationalities, keen to find out more about our biosourced solutions. The visits took place over two days, starting with a welcome by the group’s management, followed by a presentation of the flagship solutions in the animal care range. The products developed by the group use innovative technologies based on seaweed extracts to improve animal hygiene, fight the mycotoxins risk (MMI.S®), increase digestive efficiency and strengthen the animals’ natural defenses, while reconciling economic and environmental performance.

Mistral: over 25 years’ experience in improving the economic profitability of pig farms

Among the solutions presented, Mistral®, the first product developed by Olmix in 1995 and the current market leader in drying agents, enhances the evaporation of moisture from floors and bedding to reduce the risk of infection and contamination. This longevity on the market is explained by its economic efficiency, which enables farmers to derive direct benefit from the use of the product, with, for example, a reduction in neonatal mortality on pig farms, leading to an increase in the number of piglets weaned (an average of 1 to 3 points between birth and weaning).

The tour ended with a long-awaited visit to the group’s plant, with a look at how the biotech unit and R&D laboratories work, a tour of the pilot hall where product formulations are applied and, finally, the biorefinery where seaweed – Olmix’s unique and long-standing expertise – is processed and transformed into ingredients for our biosourced solutions.

It was an event rich in experience sharing, testimonials, knowledge exchanges and the opportunity to discuss future collaborations for the benefit of the European pork industry.
