On November 2nd, Olmix, in collaboration with Agro Farmacy (a member of the Nileda Group), hosted a technical workshop in Phnom Penh focused on off-season durian production. The event gathered durian growers, dealers and experts to explore the technical knowledge and upcoming challenges of this crop. A great opportunity for Olmix and Agro Farmacy to showcase how biosolutions and new practices can enhance productivity and resilience in Cambodian durian cultivation.
Technical workshop on off-season Durian production
Mr. Vannak (Founder and CEO of Nileda) shared insights on his company’s role in empowering Cambodian farmers by providing innovative solutions and technical expertise to improve agricultural productivity. Mr. Savang, Executive Director of Agro Farmacy, a key player in the fruit tree industry, emphasized the growing potential of off-season durian cultivation in Cambodia, particularly in regions like Samlot, which is set to become a significant player in global durian exports. This insight set the stage for a deeper dive into off-season techniques during the workshop.
Ms. Lien from SOFRI (Southern Fruit Research Institute of Vietnam), a leading institution specializing in durian and Mekong Delta crops, conducted a technical training session on both in-season and off-season durian cultivation. Following her presentation, Dr. Man (Olmix Senior Consultant) outlined the challenges and trends shaping the durian production in Southeast Asia.
Mr. NGUYEN Long (Olmix Technical Manager) and Mr. HORL Long (Agro Farmacy Technical Manager) presented the first off-season durian cultivation trials in Cambodia, using Vietnamese techniques combined with Olmix’s biostimulants, Seamel BLOOM and Amix SILK. The promising results demonstrated improved plant vigor and enhanced flowering, highlighting the potential of these products for off-season production.
Durian grower Mr. Vannara and Ms. Leangy, key business partners of Agro Farmacy, shared their experiences with Olmix’s technical methods. After visiting Vietnam’s Mekong Delta to learn off-season flowering techniques, they applied them to demo plots in Cambodia with guidance from Agro Farmacy, Olmix, and Vietnamese experts. The collaboration led to a successful off-season flowering, highlighting the value of shared expertise and Olmix’s solutions.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, with many participants expressing interest in expanding off-season durian production on their farms.
